The Hive: Professional Spotlight on Jodi Schulman, Massage Therapist

Please meet my friend and trusted associate, Jodi Schulman, a certified Massage Therapist who has an office in Crofton.  She can also come to you with her portable massage table and chair.

Jodi Schulman of Galaxy Massage

Jodi has had dreams of becoming a Massage Therapist since she was in 5th grade.  She believes it started by arguing with her siblings about who would get a back rub first from their parents.  About five years ago, she made the plunge to go to school to fulfill her dreams.  Her life hasn’t been the same since.

Being a very tactile person herself, she understands the importance of touch and trust between humans.  To her, massage therapy is crucial for everyone because it increases flexibility and circulation, providing a better quality of life.  It affects all aspects of the body, both physically and energetically, and also increases productivity at work.  She says that even surgery could be prevented for backs, knees and hips, because massage therapy could cure something homeopathically, of course, depending on the severity of the illness or injury.

Some folks are just nervous about getting a massage done.  Jodi understands this, and will go out of her way to help her clients to feel comfortable.  She lets them know that they are in control of the massage.  If anything makes them uncomfortable, they just let her know, and together they will adjust the work done.  She’s even invited a loved one sit in on a massage to make her client feel more comfortable.  She will also give hand massages at public events to help potential clients get used to her touch before they reserve a time with her.

Jodi has a deep understanding of massage therapy and has a goal for every one of her clients:
Massage therapy is one of the few holistic modalities that works on every aspect of the body from the organs through the cells and energetic fields. I believe that it is also one of the oldest holistic modalities in the world and goes back to Biblical days when they mention laying their hands on others to heal them. My goal with every massage is to have the client feeling like a million dollars when they leave my office whether it be from pain relief, relaxation, increased flexibility or just a realignment of the body structure. I believe that every body needs massage.

Jodi is very visible in the community and participates in many networking groups.  She has a website at www.galaxymassage.com and her Facebook business page.  She writes articles for several publications, such as Arundel Voice.  She has also founded a networking group through meetup.com called Wellthy Living.  To give back to the community, she also volunteers at different venues and donates gift certificates to help local non-profit organizations raise money.

Her clients give her rave reviews, too.  One client recently said this about her:
Jodi is quite literally a lifesaver for me. Working in the IT field, I'm stuck in the same hunched position (every day) for hours on end. The pain … was so bad that it affected my vision and breathing… (I took) pain medication, medicated rubs, heating pads… (visited) chiropractors, neurologists, etc. None gave me the extended relief I desperately sought. Then by chance I found Jodi. She diagnosed the problem and worked out a routine of massage therapy coupled with my existing … chiropractic care to put me on a path to recovery. To this day, both my chiropractor and I credit Jodi with the complete reversal of my condition. Accolades cannot begin to describe how grateful I am for her dedication to my physical health and overall well-being.

Jodi’s dream is to someday open her own spa that would include child care services and a classroom, to teach those less fortunate to give massage to each other.  She believes that this would raise their self- esteem and help them along in a more productive manner.  She also wants to help women who are victims of domestic violence, as well as veterans, to help them realize that they are not defined by what has happened to them.  She desires to create an out-reach program that allows Massage Therapists to travel to other countries to teach massage.

If you are interested in contacting Jodi for a massage, please give her a call at her office at (786) 566-0391.
